We are looking to develop a booking platform that connects students with our language schools and courses. Ideally we are looking to build this in WordPress using a travel theme like WP Travel Engine, but we are open to other suggestions.
Current Challenge
The main functionality gap we've identified in WP Travel Engine is the lack of a weekly duration booking system specifically designed for educational programs. Here's what we need:
Required Features:
1. Weekly Duration Selection
Allow customers to select the number of weeks for their course (e.g., 1 week, 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 8 weeks, etc.) Dynamic pricing calculation based on selected duration Ability to offer discounts for longer stays (e.g., 10% off for 4+ weeks) or multiple people bookings
2. Fixed Weekly Start Dates
Restrict course bookings to specific weekdays (Monday in our case) Display available Monday start dates in a calendar picker Block unavailable weeks based on school capacity/availability
3. Accommodation Integration
Option to add accommodation to the course as an add-on, we have multiple types of accommodation per destination so the client needs to be able to choose. Link accommodation bookings to course duration Accommodation typically starts on weekends (Saturday/Sunday arrival) Accommodation checkout typically on the weekend following course completion Automatic calculation: i.e. if course is 2 weeks starting Monday Sept 16, accommodation runs Saturday Sept 14 – Saturday Sept 28 or Sunday - Sunday
Example User Journey:
Student selects "Italian Language Course in Florence" Chooses duration: "4 weeks" Selects start date: "Monday, October 7, 2024" System automatically calculates course dates: Oct 7 – Nov 1 (4 Mondays)
Accommodation Selection: Student chooses: "Yes, I need accommodation" System shows available accommodation types for those dates:
Student selects: "Host Family (Single room)" System calculates accommodation dates: Oct 5 – Nov 2 (Saturday to Saturday) or Oct 6 – Nov 3 (Sunday to Sunday), based on client's preference
Add-on Services: Airport transfer (Florence Airport to accommodation): €45 Welcome dinner: €35 Weekly cultural activities: €25/week Private lessons (5 hours): €200
Dynamic pricing updates in real-time: Course (4 weeks): €1,200 Host Family accommodation (4 weeks + 2 days): €1,160 Airport transfer: €45 Cultural activities (4 weeks): €100 Total: €2,505 User completes booking with appropriate deposit, or if not they have the option to send an enquiry.
